Scope: |
This ESSENTIAL describes the regulatory requirements for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres as defined in Law 2014/34/AB Article 2 and the legal obligations for manufacturers and importers.
It does not describe regulatory requirements for:
- components
- combined products (assemblies) with different categories
This ESSENTIAL does not cover IECEx System requirements.
This ESSENTIAL does not cover requirements or classifications from Directive 1999/92/EC on minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres (e.g. Zone classification)
2014/34/AB, ARTICLE 2 - (1) This Regulation covers the following products:
a) Equipment and protective systems designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres,
b) Safety devices, control devices and adjustment equipment used for purposes other than potentially explosive atmospheres, but necessary or contributing to the safe operation of equipment and protective systems against explosion hazards,
c) Components intended to be installed in equipment and protective systems specified in (a).

ARTICLE 41 - (1) This Regulation has been prepared within the framework of harmonization with the European Union legislation, taking into account the "Directive of the Member States on Equipment and Protective Systems Used in Potential Explosive Atmospheres" dated 26-FEB-2014, no. 2014/34/EU.
