Scope of this ESSENTIAL
Before 2024, there was no legislation regarding electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres in Saudi Arabia.
The new Technical Regulation (legally binding) will come into force on 16-NOV-2024, transition period: 1 year.

This ESSENTIAL is based on the Saudi Arabian SASO "Technical regulations for electrical appliances and equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres", published 28-SEP-2023.'

Scope of legislation
(TR) Article 2 - Scope
2.1 The provisions of this regulation apply to the following products:
A) Protective equipment and systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres
B) Safety devices, control and regulation devices intended for use outside explosive atmospheres, as they are required or contribute to the safe performance of protective equipment and systems with respect to explosion risks
C) The components to be integrated into the preventive devices and systems referred to in Clause (2.1 A) of this Article'

Scope of this ESSENTIAL
This ESSENTIAL describes the safety of electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres requirements of Saudi Arabia, based on
- information regarding electrical devices in explosive atmospheres from the SASO websites
- IECEx 02 Publication

There is no legislation regarding electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres, neither in Saudi Arabia nor in the GCC states (Gulf Cooperation Council).
For any missing information, please refer to the IECEx 02-Document and the IEC 60079 standards series, these have been adopted by the GSO (Standards Organization of the GCC member states)'
