This ESSENTIAL describes the ype approval process for non-automated weighing instruments (NAWI) based on the laws and regulations listed in this CRF.
LMPC Certificate/Registration (Legal Metrology Pre-Packed Commodity Rules) are not in scope of this CRF.

Legislation in force: |
The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 regulates:
- Standard weights and Measures
- Appointment and Powers of Director, Controller and Legal Metrology Officers
- Verification and Stamping of Weight or Measure
- Offences and Penalties
Legal Metrology (General) Rules 2011, define:
- Specifications of standards of weights and measures
- Specifications of standard equipment
- Weights or measures and weighing and measuring insruments
- Import of weights and measure
- Non-standard weight or measure to be used for scientific investigation or research
- Miscellaneous
- Testing schedules for standards and measuring instruments.
Non-automated weighing instruments are listed under Schedule 7, Heading A (English text begins on page 380 of 655 in total)
The Legal Metrology (General Corrigendum) Rules describe a form for an "Application for Approval of Model" and necessary documentation to be provided for the approval process.
In addition, a form for an "Application for Recognition of Laboratory under Legal Metrology" is described.
Legal Metrology GATC (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules 2013 describe the regulation for verification, approval and certification of GATCs.
The round verification mark of a GATC is defined:
in the upper half: IND + code number of GATC
in the lower half: code letter for the quarter of the year and 2 digits for the year
