This ESSENTIAL describes the Grant of Licence and marking (ISI) for specific electrical products.
There are also many product groups which require ISI certification (non-electrical products like: construction materials, cement, steel, food, food packing materials, automobile parts, chemicals etc.) but those categories are not covered by this CRF.

This ESSENTIAL does not cover Solar Photovoltaic Systems/Devices/Components Goods.

The Bureau (of Indian Standards) grants a licence based on successful assessment of the manufacturing infrastructure, production process, quality control and testing capabilities of a manufacturer through a visit to its manufacturing premises. Conformity of the product to the relevant standard(s) is also established through third party laboratory testing or testing in the manufacturing premises or a combination of both.
Several Amendment Regulations.
The Amendment Regulation of 16-MAR-2022 implemented the Scheme-X for Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear,
Act to provide for the establishment of a national standards body for the harmonious development of the activities of standardisation, conformity assessment and quality assurance of goods, articles, processes, systems and services and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
