This ESSENTIAL describes the CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) also called "Scheme II". CRS is compulsory for electronic, electrical, household, lightning, ITE and other products listed in more than 60 product categories.
It does not cover:
- Registration and certification of electrotechnical products with ISI mark, please see: ESSENTIAL IND Electrical Safety - ISI Certification

Bureau of Indian Standards grants licence to the manufacturers to use or apply Standard Mark with unique R-number, through registration based on self-declaration of conformity for goods and articles as per Indian Standards. The grant of licence and its operation under Compulsory Registration Scheme are carried out as per the conformity assessment scheme under Scheme - II of Schedule - II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

- Uninterruptible Power Systems
- Supplied Electronic Control gear for LED Modules
- Secondary Cells and Batteries Containing Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electrolytes
- Self-Ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting
- Luminaries
