Scope: This ESSENTIAL describes the regulatory requirements a) for devices related to Electrical Safety based on the Decree No. 298 of 2005. b) for electrical installations based on the Supreme Decree No 8 of 2019

Legislation in force: The Supreme Decree of the Ministry of Economy No. 298 issued on 10 Nov 2005 regulates the certification requirements of electrical appliances and combustibles. Article 2 The provisions of this regulation shall apply to all fuel products that are marketed in the country and to those electrical products that, in accordance with current regulations, must be subject to certification prior to their commercialization, whatever their use or field of application. Article 4 Definition 4.34 Electrical Products: Generic term used to refer to apparatus, appliances, accessories, equipment, instruments, devices, materials or machinery, which use, store, transport or isolate electrical energy, or elements that are part thereof. Safety analysis and/or testing protocols for electrical and fuel products 2018. Approves and/or modifies Safety/Efficiency Analysis and/or Testing Protocols for certifying and testing electrical and/or fuel products, developed during 2018, with details and application dates as indicated in the following table. (Spanish version only) The Electricity and Fuel Board (SEC) issued new Resolutions and Test Protocols to request mandatory certification for specific electrical and gas products aimed to be imported and sold in Chile. These Resolutions and Protocols establish the applicable testing and certification requirements for each product in terms of Energy Efficiency and Safety, mostly based on IEC standards for electrical products and on UNE EN ISO standards for gas products. The list of products that must present a valid CoC issued by an accredited Certification Body recognized by SEC as well as the effective dates per product. Article 18 - The Distribution Companies may not connect to their distribution networks Executed Electrical Energy Consumption Installations, without these having been previously communicated to the Superintendency by an authorized electrical installer or by those professionals indicated in Supreme Decree No. 92 of 1983, of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Reconstruction, as appropriate, which must accompany the respective Third Party Verification carried out in accordance with the provisions of the RIC Normative Technical Sheet No. 19, on Commissioning, or the document that replaces it.
